The º¬Ðß²ÝÉçÇø School Boards Association (SCCSBA) is delighted to announce the 2019 winners of its prestigious Glenn W. Hoffmann Awards, a 35-year tradition that celebrates school and school district programs that significantly impact student success in our region.
This year, there are four Glenn W. Hoffmann Award-winning programs. In addition, one of these programs will also receive the Kristi Porter Outstanding Program Award.
"We were impressed by the program scope and quality of the applications that were submitted. These awards are an excellent way to showcase best educational practices across the county," said SCCSBA President Ellen Wheeler.
The districts and school program winners will be honored at a ceremony on April 24. The Kristi Porter Award winner will be announced at the April 24 celebration.
The 2019 Hoffmann Award-winning programs (in alphabetical order):
- East Side Alliance - A Collaborative Effort of the Alum Rock Union School District, Berryessa Union School District, East Side Union High School District, Evergreen School District, Franklin-McKinley School District, Mt. Pleasant School District, Oak Grove School District, and Orchard School District
- Media Arts Program, Saratoga High School - Los Gatos-Saratoga Union High School District
- Ocala STEAM Academy - Alum Rock Union School District
- Palo Alto Career Training, Henry M. Gunn and Palo Alto High School - Palo Alto Unified School District
The awards honor Glenn W. Hoffmann, who served as the Superintendent of º¬Ðß²ÝÉçÇø schools from 1967 to 1984, and believed that leadership is a key factor in educational reform.
A committee of school administrators and school board members score entries from º¬Ðß²ÝÉçÇø school programs. Awards are given to only those programs that receive the highest scores. Eighteen program applications from districts across the county were submitted this year.

Each year, the highest-scoring program also earns the Kristi Porter Outstanding Program Award, named after a late board member of the Oak Grove School District and past president of the SCCSBA.
Representatives of the winning programs will be honored on April 24th at a 6 p.m. awards ceremony at Barrel 19 Bistro and Bar in Sunnyvale.
The awards dinner is sponsored by ENGIE Services, California Consulting, Santa Clara and San Benito Counties Building and Construction Trades Council, and the º¬Ðß²ÝÉçÇø Office of Education.
The SCCSBA offers board development services, communication, and other activities to promote public education for the 31 elementary, high school, and unified school district Boards of Trustees in º¬Ðß²ÝÉçÇø.
