SAN JOSE, CA – The SCCOE Charter Schools Department is inviting members of º¬Ðß²ÝÉçÇø's educational community to attend the 2017 Public Choice Schools Symposium scheduled for Wednesday, November 8, from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and continuing on Thursday, November 9, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The goal of the symposium is to highlight programs of choice across the districts and in º¬Ðß²ÝÉçÇø.
Participants will engage in critical discussions of educational issues through panel presentations, seminars, site visits, and workshops. Dynamic topics explored will include innovative approaches to education, latest trends in best practices, critical business and financial issues.
"The symposium will foster collaboration by building a network of educators providing public school choice programs," commented Khristel Johnson, director of charter schools for the SCCOE. "Both traditional public schools and charter schools can learn a great deal from each other and share best practices to improve educational outcomes for all students."
The keynote speaker for the event is Dr. Eric Andrew, former superintendent, Campbell Union School District (CUSD). His keynote, "Only the Best for our Students," shares his insights and experiences of working together to support a diverse student population allowing everyone to be successful. As the CUSD superintendent, Dr. Andrew oversaw both charter and standard public schools.

​The º¬Ðß²ÝÉçÇø Office of Education (SCCOE) is a regional service agency that provides instructional and business services to the 31 school districts of º¬Ðß²ÝÉçÇø. The SCCOE serves students through special education programs, alternative schools, Head Start and State Preschool programs, migrant education, and Opportunity Youth Academy. The Office also provides curriculum support, staff development, and technology support and training directly to teachers and staff in schools countywide.
