​SAN JOSE, CA – On Wednesday, January 17, the º¬Ðß²ÝÉçÇø Board of Education (SCCBOE) pursuant to Education Code sections 5090-5093 agreed to make a provisional appointment to fill a vacancy from Board Trustee Area 2, which became vacant on December 19, 2017, with the resignation of Dr. Michael Chang. The provisional appointee will serve until the term of office expires in November 2018.
The Board invites any eligible person who would like to be considered as a candidate for appointment to submit an application. Applicants must be registered voters and must reside within Board Trustee Area 2, which includes the Cupertino Union, Lakeside Joint Union, Loma Prieta Joint Union, Los Gatos Union, Saratoga Union and Los Gatos-Saratoga Joint Union High school districts, small portions of Santa Clara Unified and Sunnyvale school districts, and the corresponding portions of Fremont Union High School District. The candidate selected cannot be employed by the SCCOE or any school district while serving on the Board.
The Board sets the policies that guide the SCCOE and establishes its operating budget. In addition, the Board serves as a decision making body for county wide charter schools and also serves as an appeals board for charter school petitions denied by local school districts. The board also serves as an appeals board for such actions as interdistrict attendance requests and student expulsions.
The Board meets in public session on the first and third Wednesdays of each month at 5 p.m. at SCCOE, 1290 Ridder Park Drive, San Jose.
Interested individuals should submit a letter that includes interests and qualifications for the position. Include a minimum of three references and a resume. The º¬Ðß²ÝÉçÇø Office of Education (SCCOE) is a regional service agency that provides instructional and business services to the 31 school districts of º¬Ðß²ÝÉçÇø. The SCCOE serves students through special education programs, alternative schools, Head Start and State Preschool programs, migrant education, and Opportunity Youth Academy. The Office also provides curriculum support, staff development, and technology support and training directly to teachers and staff in schools countywide.
