SAN JOSE, CA – On Monday, October 22 the º¬Ðß²ÝÉçÇø Office of Education will honor 36 teachers for excellence in the classroom, commitment to professional development, and dedication to students, school, and community during the 49th annual Teacher Recognition Celebration.
The Fremont Union High School Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of Joe Kelly, will kick off the evening's festivities with performances during the reception at 6:15 p.m. on Monday, October 22 at the Heritage Theatre in Campbell. The event will continue with Broadway highlights from over 40 students of the Westmont High School Musical Theatre program, under the direction of Jeff Bengford.
The evening's Masters of Ceremonies include County Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Mary Ann Dewan, and Ron Gonzales President & CEO of the Hispanic Foundation of Silicon Valley and former Mayor of San José.

In addition to the county Teachers of the Year, the SCCOE has provided the California Department of Education with three State Teacher of the Year nominees, one for every 5,000 teachers working in our region, to represent º¬Ðß²ÝÉçÇø at the state-level competition. They include Kimberly Dinsdale of Union School District, Julie Kwok of Saratoga Union School District, and Kaila Schwartz of Milpitas Unified School District. These teachers must have served in the classroom for at least eight years; provide multiple recommendations from colleagues, supervisors or parents; and complete an exhaustive reflection and portfolio process to be considered for this honor.

Working collaboratively with school and community partners, the º¬Ðß²ÝÉçÇø Office of Education (SCCOE) is a regional service agency that provides instructional, business, and technology services to the 31 school districts of º¬Ðß²ÝÉçÇø. The County Office of Education directly serves students through special education programs, alternative schools, Head Start and State Preschool programs, migrant education, and Opportunity Youth Academy. The SCCOE also provides academic and fiscal oversight and monitoring to districts in addition to the 22 º¬Ðß²ÝÉçÇø Board of Education authorized charter schools.
