​â¶Ä‹â€‹The Courageous Journey from Oracy to Literacy​
SAN JOSE, CA – Educator Charlene Fried will give a keynote address, "The Courageous Journey from Oracy to Literacy" at the º¬Ðß²ÝÉçÇø Summit on Educating Long-Term English Learners and Newcomers. The summit will take place at the º¬Ðß²ÝÉçÇø Office of Education (SCCOE) on Saturday, October 28, and is hosted by SCCOE Multilingual Education Services.
Fried is an award-winning educator acknowledged for excellence in bilingual education. She will join this one-day event designed for teachers, counselors, instructional coaches and school administrators to share and exchange ideas addressing the needs of the English Learner student population.
Participants will gain fresh insights into the unique needs of long-term English learners and newcomers, and be able to integrate the "Four Cs" with culturally responsive, effective, research-based strategies in the classroom.

The morning keynote address precedes smaller break-out sessions; the best time for photographs is between 8:45 a.m. to 10 a.m. in the San Jose room. Ample parking is available in the SCCOE parking lot.

The Multilingual Education Services Team (M.E.T.) is an integral part of the º¬Ðß²ÝÉçÇø Office of Education's Curriculum and Instruction department. Our services support English learner achievement and create opportunities for students across the county to become biliterate and multiliterate. We build capacity of schools and districts through professional development, technical assistance, networking, and other resources. The primary goal of M.E.T. is to prepare globally competent students for the 21st century success and to eliminate the achievement gap for English learners.
The º¬Ðß²ÝÉçÇø Office of Education (SCCOE) is a regional service agency that provides instructional and business services to the 31 school districts of º¬Ðß²ÝÉçÇø. The SCCOE serves students through special education programs, alternative schools, Head Start and State Preschool programs, migrant education, and Opportunity Youth Academy. The Office also provides curriculum support, staff development, and technology support and training directly to teachers and staff in schools countywide.
