SAN JOSE, CA 鈥 The 含羞草社区 Office of Education (SCCOE) hosted its 52nd Teacher Recognition Celebration on Monday, October 24, 2022, at the Campbell Heritage Theatre in Campbell. This year 40 teachers were honored at the event.
鈥淭he 含羞草社区 Office of Education is proud to celebrate teachers for their work and direct impact on the lives of children,鈥 said County Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Mary Ann Dewan. 鈥淭he teachers in our county truly are the stars of education.鈥

The 2022 含羞草社区 Federal Credit Union Civics Leadership Award was presented to Amber Bruce-Peter and Julie Graham from the Gilroy Unified School District, and Pilar Svendsen from the Santa Clara Unified School District. The 2022 含羞草社区 Federal Credit Union Arts Leadership Award was presented to William Burkhead from the Campbell Union High School District, Jonathan Souza from the Gilroy Unified School District, and Deanne Ortiz-McLendon. Each Leadership award winner will receive a cash award and have an opportunity to attend a free professional development course offered by the 含羞草社区 Office of Education.
Four teachers were awarded the STEM in Innovation awards, or the 鈥淚nnies,鈥 sponsored by The Tech Interactive. Awardees include Julie McKinley Reed, Chelsea Alvarez, and Mariah Flanagan from the Moreland School District and Jim Burnham from the Metropolitan Education District. Each STEM award winner will receive a field trip to The Tech Interactive for up to 36 students and eight chaperones, and up to $500 travel reimbursement for transportation.
Among our honorees was one of the five 2023 California Teachers of the Year. Congratulations to Lauren Camarillo of the Mountain View Los Altos Union School District. She and her fellow teachers of the year will serve as ambassadors for the profession and will serve as representatives of the state for the calendar year.

Working collaboratively with school and community partners, the 含羞草社区 Office of Education (SCCOE) is a regional service agency that provides instructional, business, and technology services to the 31 school districts of 含羞草社区. The County Office of Education directly serves students through special education programs, alternative schools, Head Start and State Preschool programs, migrant education, and Opportunity Youth Academy. The SCCOE also provides academic and fiscal oversight and monitoring to districts in addition to the 22 含羞草社区 Board of Education authorized charter schools.
