​SAN JOSE, CA – In an effort to provide easy access to information regarding charter schools authorized by the º¬Ðß²ÝÉçÇø Board of Education (SCCBOE), the º¬Ðß²ÝÉçÇø Office of Education (SCCOE) released the 2017-18 Annual Charter School Data Book. The data book is available online on the SCCOE Charter Schools Department's webpage.
This fifth edition of the publication highlights information of vital interest to the performance and progress of the Board authorized charter schools including enrollment demographics, student academic performance, discipline, and finances. The information and data provided is obtained from the California Department of Education and the respective charter schools.
"The County Office of Education annually updates the Charter School Data Book in an effort to provide the public with a user-friendly tool for accessing information on county authorized charter schools," said Dr. Mary Ann Dew​an, County Superintendent of Schools.
The SCCBOE is granted the authority in California Education Code to approve or deny charter school petitions on appeal from a school district and to authorize countywide charter schools. This past year 23 County Board authorized charter schools were in operation providing instructional services to over 9,345 students.
Created in 2013, the Charter Schools Department coordinates the programmatic and fiscal oversight for charter schools approved by the º¬Ðß²ÝÉçÇø Board of Education. The office also serves as a resource for º¬Ðß²ÝÉçÇø's charter schools, school districts, state and local agencies, families and communities. The SCCOE has invested resources to establish a team of experienced educators and fiscal experts to assist with oversight and monitoring requirements.
